Labor Group Kilusang Mayo Uno Speaks on Salary Increase, Situations of Other Workers

LABOR GROUP – Kilusang Mayo Uno expressed that the recent increase in minimum salary is not enough as some workers still need sidelines.

Truth be told that a lot of Filipinos are financially struggling. That is the reason why many Pinoys chose to work abroad to have better compensation and get the chance to give their families’ a more comfortable life and a brighter future.

A lot of Pinoys endure the longing to be with their families and loved ones to be able to give them a better life. Certain professions have a wide gap when it comes to the salary when you work here in the Philippines compared with the salary of the said professions abroad.

With regards to the workers in the country, the minimum wage in the National Capital Region (NCR) and Western Visayas were recently increased. However, based on a report on ABS-CBN News, a labor group stressed that the minimum wage increase is not enough.

Labor Group on Sideline

According to the report, Kilusang Mayo Uno stressed that some workers still need to do extra jobs or sidelines after their 8-hour shift as their daily salary cannot cope with the expenses. The labor group’s secretary-general, Jerome Adonis, expressed that workers are obliged to do extra jobs and they are sacrificing their time to rest or time for their families to earn money.

The labor leader further expressed that working more than eight (8) hours a day may soon result in sickness or illness as the workers no longer have time to rest. According to him, what a worker earns from working for eight hours daily must be enough to sustain his and his family’s needs.

The recent increase in the minimum salary of workers in Metro Manila was Php 33.00. However, some employers may apply for an exemption.
