Provincial Bus Group To File Petition for Fare Increase
PROVINCIAL BUS GROUP – The Provincial Bus Operators Association of the Philippines is set to call for a fare increase amid the high fuel costs.
The Philippines is one of the countries that are suffering from the global oil problem. It is no secret to the public that the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine contributes to the oil problem across the globe now.
In PH, it was in January when huge oil price hikes started happening. The series of increases in oil prices greatly affected public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers. Currently, the prices of gasoline and diesel per liter have surpassed the P90 mark.
Jeepney transport groups are currently calling for an increase in the minimum fare. A lot of people also called for the suspension of the fuel excise tax.
Previously, the Philippine government released fuel subsidies for PUV drivers amid the high costs of fuel in the country now. Fuel vouchers were also released to farmers and fisherfolks who use machinery for their livelihood.
However, with regards to the calls for the suspension of the fuel excise tax, Malacañang declined it saying that the budget has already been allotted for government projects and expenditures.
Currently, a lot of people are struggling to cope with the high prices of fuel in the country. Russia has offered to help the nation in addressing its oil problem but the talk of the Russian government and the incoming administration is set further.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, amid the high fuel costs in the Philippines now, a provincial bus group is calling for an increase in the minimum fare. The Provincial Bus Operators Association of the Philippines is set to file a petition.
According to the report, the provincial bus group is set to seek an increase of P0.30 to P0.35 per kilometer in bus fares. More updates may be posted soon.
