DSWD Assistance for House Repair Ready To Help Victims of Typhoon Paeng Whose Homes were Damaged
DSWD ASSISTANCE FOR HOUSE REPAIR – The Department of Social Welfare and Development is ready to help Typhoon Paeng victims.
Severe tropical storm Paeng brought strong winds and heavy rains in several areas across the nation. It brought huge damages in Cavite, Metro Manila, Iloilo City, and several other areas in the country. Currently, several areas including Regions IV-A (Calabarzon), V (Bicol, VI (Western Visayas), and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) are under a state of calamity.
Many familis lost their homes due to Typhoon Paeng and are currently staying in evacuation centers. Some people even lost their loved ones. According to National Disaster Risk Reduction Managament Council (NDRRMC), the death toll due to tropical storm Paeng has reached 122 as of Wednesday night. At least 30 individuals are still missing with most of the deaths recorded in Mindanao region.
Several government agencies moved to assist the Typhoon Paeng victims. One of these state agencies is the Department of Social Welfare and Development or DSWD.
Before Typhoon Paeng hit the Philippines, DSWD cancelled the leave and dayoff of its employees for a full workforce in preparation for the tropical storm. According to the government agency, it has released over P65.8 million worth of assistance to the affected localities.
DSWD admitted that there are still calamity-stricken areas that they have yet to reach like the villages in Antique. Typhoon Paeng destroyed the bridges that connect them to the neighboring areas.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Typhoon Paeng victims whose houses were damaged by the storm may sought DSWD assistance for house repair. Up to four (4) million people are affected by the calamity.
