According to the state-run agency, a member may nominate two student beneficiaries under the GSIS Education Loan. It has set qualifications not only on the part of the loan applicant but as well as the scholars of the member.
For the qualifications under the GSIS Education Loan, the student-beneficiary must be:
- related to the GSIS member up to third degree of consanguinity or affinity
- enrolled in a four or five -year course in a public or private education institution

According to GSIS, the loan proceeds will be paid by the government agency directly to the school of the student. The payment will be made every semester or trimester until the student finishes the course.
