Every December, pensioners of the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) receive a cash gift from the social insurance institution. It greatly helps them for the holiday expenses and as well as some personal needs.

According to GSIS, old age and disability pensioners who are living abroad are qualified to receive the GSIS Christmas Cash Gift – even if their pension is on suspended status. But, pensioners must activate their status with the social insurance institution on or before June 30, 2021.

A lot of pensions are currently on suspended status due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Seniors are advised not to go outdoors if not for essential purposes. Many were not able to update with the Annual Pensioners’ Information Revalidation (APIR).

Dependent pensioners, survivorship pensioners, and pensioners under the Portability Law are not qualified for the cash gift. Those who are receiving pro-rate pension are also not eligible.
