UMID – Here are the steps on how to apply for the Unified Multi-Purpose Identification ID to the Social Security System.

Almost all legal transactions in the Philippines require a valid ID as a proof of the person’s identity. For an easier loan application, booking of flight, request of a government document, etc., it is best to provide a valid primary ID. One of the valid primary IDs is the Unified Multi-Purpose Identification.

The Unified Multi-Purpose Identification card is popularly called the UMID ID. It is a single identification card for all the members of the different government offices in the country such as the following:

  • Social Security System (SSS)
  • Government Service Insurance System (GSIS)
  • Home Development Mutual Fund (HDMF or Pag-IBIG Fund)
  • Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth)

In the application for the Unified Multi-Purpose Identification ID, there are two (2) options — apply right away at a branch of the Social Security System (SSS) or book an appointment online through the My.SSS. Be reminded that there are SSS branches that do not accept walk-in applications thus it is best ensure an online appointment.

Here are the steps for UMID ID application:

Step 1 — Prepare the UMID ID requirements to ensure a smooth flow of the application for the Unified Multi-Purpose Identification ID.

Step 2 — Fill out the UMID card application form. It can be downloaded from the website of the Social Security System or get a copy at a branch of the SSS nearest to you. Make sure to write in capital letters and write N/A if the requested information in the form is not applicable to you.

Step 3 — Go to My.SSS online and set an appointment. Log in to your account, click “Member Info” on the menubar, and click “Appointment System”. Provide the required information and pick the time for your appointment. Once you are done, click “Submit Schedule” to book your appointment.

Step 4 — Go to the SSS branch on your scheduled appointment date. Make sure to bring your UMID ID requirements with you. Your biometrics will be taken.

The Social Security System (SSS) usually releases the UMID ID within 30 days since the application. However, there might be some factors that could affect the releasing of your ID thus it is important to monitor the status of your application.
