The state-run social insurance giant has the SSS Death Benefit offer. It is a cash benefit paid to the primary beneficiaries of a deceased member which include the member’s spouse and “dependent legitimate, legitimated, or legally adopted, and illegitimate children of the member who are unmarried, not gainfully employed and not yet 21 years old or if over 21 years old, provided they are incapacitated and incapable of self-support due to physical or mental disability which is congenital in nature or acquired during minority”.

In the absence of a primary beneficiary, the SSS Death Benefit may be granted to the secondary beneficiaries of a deceased member. These people are the parents of the deceased SSS member.
In case there are both no primary and secondary beneficiaries, the Social Security System may grant the Death Benefit claim to the person designated by the member in his/her records. In case there is no designated beneficiary, it will be paid to the legal heir of the deceased member based on the law of succession under the Family Code of the Philippines.
The Death Benefit claim may be granted either through an SSS Death Benefit Pension for the beneficiaries of deceased members who have posted at least 36 monthly contributions prior to the semester of their death or through the SSS Death Benefit Lump Sum if the total premiums fall below the required number for a monthly pension.
