SSS MATERNITY BENEFIT – Here is a guide on who are qualified to apply for the maternity benefit offer of the Social Security System.
In the Philippines, one of the biggest social insurance institutions is the Social Security System or more commonly called SSS. Most of its members are employees in the private sector and self-employed individuals. Others are voluntary members of the said social insurance institution.
Every month, a member of SSS contributes a certain amount every month based on his or her salary. Accumulated contributions can qualify a member to the loans and benefit offers of the social insurance institution.
With regards to the SSS benefits, one of them is the SSS Maternity Benefit. Here are some details regarding this benefit offer for pregnant members of the social insurance institution.
The SSS Maternity Benefit is a daily cash allowance for a female member of the social insurance institution who is temporarily unable to work because of any of the following:
- childbirth
- miscarriage / emergency termination of pregnancy due to a health condition
Who are qualified to apply for an SSS Maternity Benefit? To be qualified, the member-applicant must:
- have paid at least three (3) months of contributions to SSS within the 12-month period immediately before the semester of her childbirth or the miscarriage or emergency termination of the pregnancy
- if employed, the member-applicant must have given notification of pregnancy to the employer
- directly notify the SSS if separated from employment, a self-employed or voluntary member including the overseas Filipino worker (OFW) members of the social insurance institution
According to the Social Security System, other supporting documents may be requested from the member-applicant during the claim of the grant.
