SIM CARD REGISTER – Here is a guide in registering new Smart SIMs in the Philippines including the information needed for the registration.
Nowadays, when you buy a new SIM in the Philippines, you have to register it right away. The registration is mandated by law after President Bongbong Marcos signed the SIM Registration Act.
The SIM registration in the Philippines is in line with the pursuit to curb the proliferators of scamming and spamming in the country. Each of the telecommunication provider came up with platforms where the SIM card users can register.
With regards to the registration process of new Smart SIMs, there are personal information that are needed. It is best to prepare the information needed to ensure a smooth registration of your SIM card. Here are the information needed:
- Mobile Number
- OTP (One-Time Password, to be sent to your number by Smart upon registration)
- Full Name
- Birth Date
- Complete Address
- Gender
- Nationality
For the SIM card register process of new Smart SIM cards, you must prepare at least one (1) of your valid IDs issued by the government. Make sure to have a clear scanned copy or photo of your ID. Here is a guide on the identification cards that Smart Communications accepts in registering:
- Passport
- Philippine Identification
- Social Security System ID
- Government Service Insurance System E-Card
- Driver’s License
- National Bureau of Investigation Clearance
- Police Clearance
- Firearms’ License to Own and Possess ID
- Professional Regulation Commission ID
- Integrated Bar of the Philippines ID
- Overseas Workers Welfare Administration ID
- Bureau of Internal Revenue ID
- Voter’s ID
- Senior Citizen’s Card
- Unified Multi-purpose Identification Card
- Person with Disabilities Card
- Other valid government-issued ID with Photo
Aside from the valid ID, you also need a clear selfie photo to register a SIM card which is mandated by law. For the photo, make sure that the background is simple without distracting elements. Here are the steps in registering your SIM card:
Step 1. Visit the Smart portal at http://www.smart.com.ph/simreg.
Step 2. Enter your mobile number. Wait for your One-Time Password (OTP).
Step 3. Input your personal information, upload your valid ID, and upload your selfie.
Step 4. Wait for the SMS confirming the successful registration of your SIM card.
If you also have a Globe SIM, there is a different process to register but it can also be done online.
