DTI BUSINESS REGISTRATION – Here is a guide on who are qualified to register a business name to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

Are you planning to put up a business of your own? One of the things that you must consider to do first is to register your business name. It is important to have it registered to make sure that no other businesses is already using it or has the rights on the name.

However, it must be cleared that having your business name registered does not totally assure that no one will be using it. It might happen but you will have the rights when it is registered.

The business name is registered to the Department of Trade and Industry or more commonly called as DTI. First, you have to think of a unique business name.

A tip in making a business name is using something personal and then adding another name that speaks of the nature of your business. For example, Lauren’s Computer Shop, Macky’s Eatery, and Karen’s Vulcanizing Shop.

For the DTI business registration, the government has set qualifications. To be eligible to register a business name, the owner must be:

  • at least 18 years old
  • a Filipino citizen or a foreign national with a Certificate of Registration of Sole Proprietorship or Certificate of Authority to Engage in Business in the Philippines or a refugee or stateless person

With regards to the requirements for DTI business registration, two (2) duly-accomplished Business Name Registration Form and at least two (2) valid IDs must be presented. The following IDs are accepted:

  • Passport
  • Driver’s license
  • UMID
  • PRC ID
  • NBI Clearance
  • Police Clearance (in ID form)
  • Postal ID
  • Voter’s ID
  • OWWA ID
  • Seaman’s Book
  • IBP ID
  • Senior citizen ID
  • PWD ID
  • Government office ID
  • Validated state college/university ID
