Cash Assistance for PUV Drivers to be Released amid Increasing Fuel Cost

Cash Assistance for PUV Drivers Affected by Fuel Price Increase Confirmed

CASH ASSISTANCE FOR PUV DRIVERS – The government will be giving cash grants to public utility drivers affected by the fuel cost increase.

Among the people whose source of income is greatly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic are the PUV drivers. To pave the way for social distancing inside the vehicles, the capacity is reduced. Also, a huge part of the commuters are currently on a work-from-home set-up and most students stay at home as well as blended learning is being implemented.

However, aside from that, there is another thing that affects public utility drivers and private vehicle owners – the increasing prices of fuel. A series of price increase has recently taken place.

PUV drivers called for help from the government and the different public agencies. Previously, at least four (4) transport groups have decided and apologized over the need for them to file a petition that seeks to increase the jeepney fare by P3.00.

The transport groups sought understanding from the commuters. They explained that they are greatly burdened by the increasing prices of fuel with no assistance from the government.

Recently, a good news for the PUV drivers crossed the surface. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Development Budget Coordination Committee (DBCC) confirmed the cash assistance for PUV drivers.

According to DBCC, P1 billion worth of cash assistance for PUV drivers affected by the increase in the prices of fuel will be released to some 178,000 drivers. The grant will be disbursed by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board’s (LTFRB) Pantawid Pasada Program.

DBCC assured that it is committed to supporting the transport sector in the country. ; The budget that will be released as cash grants to PUV drivers will be charged under the untapped appropriations under the Support Infrastructure Projects and Social Programs in 2021.
