The GSIS membership is mandated among the employees of the government while the employees of the companies and businesses in the private sector are required of a membership to the SSS. The memberships to both social insurance giants are lifetime memberships.

The Emergency Loan for active GSIS members is a calamity loan that members can turn to when their place of residence or work was left in a hard state by a natural disaster. Here are the GSIS Emergency Loan requirements in terms of eligibility for application to the offer:

  • member resides or works in an area declared under a State of Calamity
  • in active service
  • not on a leave of absence without pay
  • has no arrears in the payment of mandatory social insurance contributions
  • has no in-default loan (unpaid for more than 6 months)
