Guide on OWWA Scholarship Requirements under the EDSP
OWWA SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENTS – You can check the list below for the documents needed in applying for the Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP).
In the Philippines, there are several private and public entities that underprivilege but deserving students may turn to. In the case of the children or dependents of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), you may turn to OWWA or the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration.
Aside from the OWWA scholarship ODSP which has its own requirements, the government agency also offers the Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP). The government agency has set different eligibility requirements in applying for the EDSP offer for aspiring scholars. For incoming senior high school or grade 12 students, the student beneficiary must:
- have at least 80% General Weighted Average (GWA) without failing grades upon application
- pass the DOST qualifying examination and be on the top 400 passers nationwide
For student beneficiaries who are incoming freshmen or first year college students, the following is the eligibility criteria:
- Single
- Grade 11 graduate (Incoming Grade 12 / currently enrolled as Grade 12)
- Not more than 21 years old
- With a General Weighted Average (GWA) of 80% or higher. If required GWA is not yet available at the time of filing of application, the academic performance of the applicant in the two consecutive preceding school year shall be used as basis for evaluation
- Belonging to the top 400 qualifiers of the Department of Science and Technology national qualifying exam
For college students who are in their second year to fifth year, here is the eligibility criteria set by OWWA under the Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP):
- Not more than 30 years old
- With a GWA not lower than B letter grade or 85% equivalence in all academic and non-academic subjects during the last school year attended in full load
Part of the OWWA scholarship requirements are some documents that student beneficiaries must submit to the government agency. Here are the documentary requirements:
- duly-accomplished Scholarship Application Form
- Certificate of Good Moral
- OFW Membership Record
- 2 pcs. I.D. Picture with Name Tag
- Notice from RWOs of qualifying the DOST-OWWA (for incoming first year college students)
- Medical Certificate i.e. Physically Fit to attend school if student has a medical pre-condition/s
- one (1) valid I.D. of the OFW and/or the Authorized Representative
- Proof of Relationship to OFW Member i.e. Birth Certificate from PSA or LCR
- OFW Birth Certificate, if dependent is sibling
- OFW Certificate of No Marriage Record (CENOMAR, if single)
- Dependent’s Birth Certificate
- Dependent’s Form 137 / Certified True Copy of Form 138 / Transcript of Records (TOR)
- For incoming first year, 80% GWA without failing grades
- For second to fifth year, 85% GWA without failing grades
