In most countries, drivers are required to get a driver’s license before driving any type of vehicle. In the Philippines, you can apply for a driver’s license at the Land Transportation Office. More commonly called LTO, it is a non-government agency that issues driver’s license and registers the vehicles in the country.
Those who want to apply for a driver’s license must get a “Student Permit” first. To apply for a non-professional driver’s license at the LTO, the following are considered:
- Filipino at least 17 years of age
- Foreigners who are at least 18 years of age
- Holds a Student Permit
- Physically and mentally fit for driving a vehicle
- Can communicate in English and Tagalog
- Must pass the exam administered by the LTO
- Have undergone at least eight hours of practical driving lessons
In applying for a non-professional driver’s license, you must prepare for the LTO non pro fee. Undeniably, it is higher now compared before but most offices offer a 10-year validity of the driver’s license.
