There is a huge advantage in maintaining an active and update account to the Social Security System, more popularly called SSS. The members of the state-run social insurance institution have offers that they can turn to when certain circumstances like separation from job, sickness, and disability happen.
One of the offers of the state-run social insurance giant is the SSS Sickness Benefit. It aims to financially assist members who are unable to report to work due to sickness or injury that lasted for at least four (4) days.
The SSS Sickness Benefit offer is open for locally-employed and self-employed members as well as overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and voluntary members. There are SSS Sickness Benefit requirements that must be submitted in filing for a claim:
- Sickness Benefit Application (SBA) Form
- SS ID/UMID card or any valid primary ID cards/documents, as follows:
- Passport
- Driver’s License
- National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Clearance
- Voter’s ID Card
- Postal Identity Card
- Any other government-issued (secondary) ID cards/documents
- Supporting medical documents for prolonged confinement/sickness, if any:
- Laboratory
- X-ray
- ECG
- Other diagnostic results
- Operating room/clinical record supporting diagnosis
During the filing, there are SSS Sickness Benefit requirements that are required for presentation. The set of documents needed vary depending if the claim application is file the member or by an authorized representative.

In the case of claim applications for sickness or injuries that occured abroad, the documents issued by the foreign nation must bear an English translation. The documents must also be duly-authenticated by the Philippine Embassy/Consulate Office or duly-notarized by the notary public in the host country.
