One of the public entities that launched a program to help the poor but deserving Filipino students is the Department of Social Welfare and Development. More popularly called the DSWD, it opened its DSWD Educational Assistance offer for students who are:

  • breadwinners
  • working students
  • orphans or living with relatives
  • child of a solo parent
  • parents are jobless
  • children of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs)
  • victims of calamities or injuries

The DSWD opens its offer for elementary, high school, and college students. It has set different allowance rates for the students based on the grade or year level.

If your child is an elementary student and you want to apply to obtain a DSWD Educational Cash Assistance Allowance for him/her, the student will get P1,000 based on his/her educational level/grade.

The said DSWD Educational Cash Aid for students is intended to help the student in the expenses for his/her tuition, textbooks, and other educational costs.

There are documents that you must submit to the DSWD in applying for the educational assistance. Here’s the list of requirements for application:

  • enrollment form
  • authorization letter in case the applicant will not be able to come
  • valid ID of the parents
  • valid ID of the student

The application can also be done online. You need to register based on the DSWD portal set for the applicants in your home region.
