GSIS Launches Insurance Benefits for COVID-19 Government Frontliners

GSIS – The Government Service Insurance System will give Php 500,000.00 to the family of government frontliners who died of COVID-19.

The Philippines is one of the countries with confirmed cases of coronavirus or COVID-19. According to the department of Health (DOH), there is now a total of 12,718 cases of COVID-19 recorded in the country.

To curb the spread of the disease, community quarantines are widely implemented. Currently, Metro Manila, Laguna, and Cebu City are among the areas under a Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ).

As per the decision of the Palace, the rest of the country is under a General Community Quarantine (GCQ) now. Everyone is reminded to remain at home unless for work or other essential purposes.

Amid the advisory for the public to stay at home, there are people who are risking their lives as they have to perform their jobs. They are the frontliners in the fight against COVID-19.

Sadly, a lot of doctors, nurses, and other frontliners lost their lives due to the disease. They are the real-life heroes to risked their own lives to save others.

The government has previously vowed to extend benefits to the survivors of the frontliners who died of COVID-19. Recently, the Government Service Insurance System also launched an insurance benefit.

The GSIS will give Php 500,000.00 to the family or survivors of government frontliners who died of COVID-19, it was confirmed by the social insurance institution’s President Rolando Ledesma Macasaet.

According to GSIS, the insurance benefits covers a total of 27,682 government frontliners nationwide. It is on top of the one-million peso benefit from the government for the survivors of every frontliner who died of coronavirus.

“This is to show our appreciation for the courage, heroism and selfless dedication of our frontline workers in government. We hope that this will somewhat help assuage the grief felt by the families left behind by these heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country,” the GSIS President expressed.
